Another craft

A good friend of mine is having a baby boy at the end of summer. I wanted to make something special for her, that she wouldn't be getting from any of her other family or friends. I found this great tutorial and got to work!

Picking out cute fabrics for boys is hard. The fabric world is dominated by pink!

She like black and red, and he loves lime green, so I pleased them both!

In use! How darling!

I am super excited to give it to Leah and see her use it!

Crafts run in my blood!

Trio #1 and I LOVE to do crafts! We love to "blog hop" and find ideas and try them out! We are never surprised to discover how much we are all capable of.

A few of our friends have had babies, or are about to have babies soon, so we wanted to make something special for them. We found a blog here that gave an easy peasy tutorial on hooded towels. Look how cute they turned out!
This is for baby Knox White

This one was for baby Parker Jones
Added a little dino for the corner

Trio #1 and I found a Brother sewing machine about a year ago at a garage sale for only $3. It was the biggest steal of a deal that I have ever encountered. The lady just didn't know how to use it, and wanted to desperately get rid of it. It was brand new, still in the box; and works like magic! Then for Christmas, Trio #1 got a Brother serger from Santa!! We have a really great office set-up in our apartment, so the machines get to stay plugged in and ready at all times. (I give you permission to be jealous...) So, we when we get the hankering to craft, we can, at any time of day...or night...

We also included several burp cloths with the towels. A tutorial for them can be found here. Most of our friends are having boys, so the ribbon is usually left off. Here are some fun pictures to show you how cute they turned out!
We had a circle theme going for baby Knox. It was pure coincidence.

We have also made skirts from bed sheets, skirts from pants, a wrist lanyards for your keys, etc. Stay tuned for more projects to come!
Trio #1 surging her bed-sheet skirt!

We had a craft night with some friends, and go to use their grandma's sewing machine, thread, and bobbins.  It was interesting to say the least.

This is what craft night consisted of. We made the wrist lanyards that night.

Minions

I work at an Elementary School, and our class is OBSESSED with the movie "Despicable Me". We quote it, draw pictures, quote it, and sometimes act like the minions, or just call ourselves minions. I am really surprised that it caught on like wild fire.

And speaking of wild fire, we had to take a "snow day" to make-up the day we missed because of the Herriman Fire. (more info) The teachers all had meetings to attend all day, so us TA's had got to watch the kids all morning. Luckily we got out after lunch, and it still counted as a full day.

My sister, Trio #1, got to come and help me that day. After doing a very fun writing assignment, we got to watch "Despicable Me" and then make MINION TWINKIES! We got the idea from here (The Party Animal Blog). The lady who originally made them went to lots of precise detail, and we just let the kids go at it however they wanted. Here are the pictures to show you how creative and amazing our little minions are!

This is the one that we delivered to the Principal. She was a little confused at first as to what it was....

Longshore Family Get-Together

I have a LARGE family! And I love it!

The other day [stay with me...] my dad's brother and his family came into town, and we all got together for dinner. We were at the restaurant for almost 4 hours just catching up with each other. It was a blast! I have lots of cousins that are pretty close in age, so it is lots of fun to sit and talk.

There were about 35 of us at the restaurant. I am going to try and give you a low down on who was there and how we are all related. :o]

It all started with Three Sisters: Pollio, Dolly, and Dixia. They got married, and had children, who had children, who are starting to have children of their own. I will bold the names of the Blood Relatives to try and make it a little easier.

I come from Dixia. Most everyone who was there comes from Dixia and Russ. There were two sister-in-laws in attendance that hail from Dolly. They are Vicki and Cat.
Now on to who hails from Dixia. Her oldest Son is Todd. His son Nick and his wife Caroline were there.
The next son from Dixia and Russ is Alan. He is the one that came into town and started the celebrations. He is married to Brenda, and they have 5 children. Spencer and Ashley, parents of Oakley and Brooklyn, were also visiting from out of town. Julia and Scott live a little bit north of me. Charly lives 5 minutes away, and brought a really good friend with her. Kari drove up from the south to eat with all of us. Jessica came in with her parents.
The next son is my father, Vince. I was the only one from my family that could make it to represent, so Gwen deLynn.
The next child is a Daughter named Jill. Jill and her husband Wayne came with two of their 5 children to eat and chat. The kids' names are Derek and Catherine.
The last child is Julia, and she is married to Howdy. Howdy was the only one to make it because Julia and their 3 kids had other plans.

Did I completely lose you?!? I almost got lost myself. Brenda (wife of Alan) has family in town as well, so her sister and their family joined us at the restaurant.

Over all it was a huge blast! We had lots of fun, and ate lots of food! Unfortunately I only took one picture while I was there. SORRY MOM!

Words With Friends

I owe Amy Fortenberry a huge THANKS for introducing me to one of the most addicting, fun games ever on my iPhone. It is called Words With Friends. It is a scrabble game. I love obsess with reading. So, a game that makes me think, and does not simply waste time, is my kind of game.

Many people play this game different ways...Trio #3, when she gets stuck, just puts random letters on the board until one makes a word. Sometimes, no one actually knows the definition of that word. Brother cheats all the time; and you can tell he cheats because they are words that you have never heard of before, can't use in a sentence, and definitely can't provide a definition for without pulling up dictionary.com. Pretty much everyone else I play with plays appropriately; or to the best of my knowledge.

When playing this, there are some wicked sweet things that happen. Like words that get you more than 100 points, crazy setups that keep you stumped, and just cool things that please the eye. Here are some picture examples!
I like the set-up of this one. I hadn't really seen anything like this before.

I admit...I cheated on this word. I'm glad I did!

I was sooo upset with this game. He was not helping me to place more words!

I got a bonus on this word for using all 7 letters. First time ever....and I don't think it has happened again.

This word was over a triple letter, and triple word!

She kicked my trash in this game. This is the most point I have ever seen!!

Did I mention he cheats?!?!

Again with the triple letter, triple word spaces!
Thanks to all of you who are willing to keep playing with me, and for helping me to expand my vocabulary! :o]

The Rest of my Birthday Celebrations

I know that this is extremely late, but I wanted to remember the rest of my birthday celebrations!! Also, not to forget anyone who made it extra special for me!!

On Thursday, Feb 24, after work was over, we got to go down to Provo to hang out with Trio #3. We went to the Missionary Training Center to volunteer. We were able to help some very darling Sister Missionaries practice teaching lessons to people who may be interested in learning more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was a very spiritual experience that night. I was able to emotionally and spiritually connect with this particular missionary and we shared some awesome experiences together. I am so grateful that I was able to serve a mission, and be able to relate to so many people!

After the MTC, we went to Brick Oven for dinner. That place is awesome! We love going there. Trio #3 told them that it was my birthday. [Side note: I come from a family that is not embarrassed to admit it is our birthday and participate in the embarrassing rituals that surround eating out on your special day.] We were at the restaurant at about 8:30, which is pretty late for Provo...so they told us that there may not be very many people who would come out and sing. We thought this very odd, because we could see at least 15 employees cleaning up and walking around. At the end of our meal, THREE very shy, very unwilling employees walked out to sing. I think they picked the WORST singers that worked there to come and sing. It was rather embarrassing to listen to them sing....LOL All well, I got the song, and the free dessert! HAHAHA

On Friday, the celebrations continued. Every year since I was about 4 years old, my Aunt MLS and Uncle SWS have taken us out to "birthday ice cream". We have been to some places like Baskin Robbins with their 34 different flavors, we have been to Cold Stone, but we usually end up at the best place in the world: LEATHERBY'S!! This tradition brings a smile to my face every year. Because we have been going there every year, I know exactly what I want even before I have parked my car, and walked into the restaurant. Here is a picture to give you an idea about how amazing Tracee's Peanut Butter Cup is!

It is like 5 scoops of vanilla ice cream, smothered in Hot Fudge, and Hot Peanut Butter, with a dollop of whipped cream goodness! I think there was only one time that I was able to finish it. That is how amazing it is!! Thanks MLS and SWS for the fun tradition!!

Sunday, sadly, the celebrations came to an end with a dinner party! Most of my extended family lives super close, so we get to do things with them often (most the time when we are home sick...). For dinner, we headed up north to my Aunt JLW and her family's house. There ended up being 2 aunts, 1 uncle, 1 sister, 1 friend, and 8 cousins in attendance. It was soo much fun! We played Just Dance 2 on the wii, and I realized that I have no rhythm. HAHA I am pretty sure that I got a little bit better as the night went one, but I still wasn't as great at my two 10-yr-old cousins.

My birthday was a blast. I am so grateful to those of you who made it extra special, and who went out of your way to show some lovin!
